Our Society

If you are interested in stamps or postal history, then this is the place for you. No previous knowledge or expertise is required. A warm welcome awaits you all at the City of Preston Philatelic Society (COPPS), which meets at 7.30 pm twice monthly on a Thursday at Thurlby Club Hall in Preston.

New members are welcome so please feel free to come along to any meeting with absolutely no obligation to join.

Membership is open to all types of collector from novices to those with a lifetime’s interest and experience and the Society caters for a wide range of philatelic interests and promotes discussion on all aspects of philately. Our members collect Great Britain, Commonwealth, Foreign, Postal History and Thematic subjects and much else.

We hold regular fortnightly meetings between September and May.

There are displays from guest speakers, visits to and from other societies, members’ evenings and competitions. Meetings normally take the form of a short introduction followed by a talk from a guest speaker or member on a particular area of collecting, usually featuring interesting displays on their specific theme or topic. There is always a social half-time break for drinks! Please see our programme for the wide range of subjects covered. You can view our current programme and find the location of our meetings under the ‘Meetings /Programme’ and ‘How to Find Us’ headings on this website.

There is a stamp packet in circulation for members to buy stamps at advantageous prices, and to dispose of their unwanted stamps. Prices are often lower than dealers would charge.

We hold annual competitions with trophies to be won, and an annual Summer social event for members with their partners and guests.

Each year we sponsor a Stamp Fair held at Barton nr Preston with more than twenty dealers attending. Admission is free, refreshments are available and there is ample parking.

The Society also owns several reference collections, resulting from donations or bequests to us in the past. These are available for members to study, and for display to other societies.

We are affiliated to the Association of British Philatelic Societies and the NW Federation Philatelic Association.
